  • Noodles, dumplings and bubble teas are on the menu for this upscale Chinese comfort food.

    Angela’s take: This is Asian fusion, and just plain ole’ yummy noodles and rice dishes. The shrimp dumplings, the veggie dumplings, the fried tofu (not on the menu anymore, ask for it) are delicious, but my go-to is the Ginger Basil Chicken – over noodles for an indulgence and over spinach other times. My daughter loves the bubble teas, and they will customize low-sugar, no-sugar, decaf, etc.
  • Relaxed BBQ pit stop for slabs of ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, and sides.

    Angela’s not-so-helpful tips: It’s a wonder they haven’t run me out of Kansas City, but I don’t enjoy BBQ. I do like the burnt ends sometimes, but I hear amazing things about Joe’s, and friends LOVE the “Z-Man” sandwiches and sides.
  • Contemporary Italian eatery with a rustic farmhouse aesthetic and bustling scene.

    Angela’s take: The Seasonal Vegetable Salad is SO much more than getting your daily veggies! My other favorites are the prosciutto pizza (with figs, goat cheese and arugula) and the Strozzapreti pasta is worth every carb!
  • Farm-to-table American fare and rye cocktails served in a stylish, urban-farmhouse setting.

    Angela’s insight: I visited Rye when they first opened and fell in love when the server recommended “fried chicken and champagne.” My other favorites: whipped goat cheese spread as an appetizer, steak & frites, and the “French Blonde” cocktail (apparently also a favorite of Taylor Swift).

    Megan & Colby Garrelts, the owners, are both James Beard Award-winning chefs. Megan for pastries, and her pies will demonstrate why. There’s a pastry counter at the host stand where you can take home brownies, cinnamon rolls and other goodies.
